Avocado Wars: The Battle Over Water Rights in Chile

The increasing demands for avocados has had a devastating effect on communities in Petorca, Chile. The avocado is not native to Chile and with recent drought years there has been an increase of illegal water diversions by avocado producers. Consequently, local citizens have been struggling to obtain water, a vital necessity for life. As a result, they have organized together in a movement fighting for water rights named “Modatima”.

Even the Rain (También la lluvia) is a film following two mexican filmmakers, Sebastian and Costa, in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Sebastian and Costa, are interested in shooting a film about the conquest by Christopher Columbus, but run into issues when their crew members and other Cochabamba locals start organizing. They organize to protest and rise up against the privatization of water and being prohibited from collecting rainwater.

The film demonstrates how fracking in Argentina and other regions of the world have serious detrimental effects on the environment and the livelihoods of those working in the industry or living nearby fracking fields.

Daughter of the Lake (Hija de la laguna) is a documentary following the Peruvian gold rush through the lens of a spiritual Andean woman. The woman attempts to use her spiritual powers to prevent a mining corporation from destroying a nearby body of water which she considers her mother.
